Last Friday (10/17/08), the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida reported that U.S. President George Bush has extended an offer to Syria.

The paper says that he [George Bush] will force Israel to

surrender the Golan Heights and immediately withdraw from the strategic plateau,

if Syria will sever its ties to the regime of the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

An unidentified senior Palestinian Authority official told the newspaper that Bush made the offer in a handwritten letter, delivered to the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad by U.S. officials.

The report suggested that President Bush is eager to score some sort of a diplomatic victory in the Middle East before his presidency ends.

Parenthetically, that may cost him [President Bush] a strong reprimand from the God of Israel.

Now, with the Israeli-Palestinian peace process somewhat frozen, as Israel tries to form a new government, perhaps the U.S. feels that forcing Jerusalem's hand on the Golan Heights may be the only option that's doable in the final 90 days of the Bush administration. [Note: President Bush has until Inauguration Day for the next president, January 20, 2009.]

You know, the Golan Heights is the most strategic defensive perimeter that Israel has !

If we hand that [the Golan Heights] over, history shows, Syria will use it to launch an attack against Israel again.

Shame on you George Bush. Your accomplishments in office do not need to include the giveaway of one of the most strategic defensive perimeters that Israel has !
