Isa 47:1 Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.
Isa 47:2 Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers.
Isa 47:3 Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man.
Isa 47:4 As for our redeemer, the LORD of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel.
Isa 47:5 Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called, The lady of kingdoms.
Isa 47:6 I was wroth with my people, I have polluted mine inheritance, and given them into thine hand: thou didst shew them no mercy; upon the ancient hast thou very heavily laid thy yoke.
~ Thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thy sorceries and potent spells. Therefore, shall evil come upon thee, and sudden desolation.
Isa 47:7 And thou saidst, I shall be a lady for ever [the eternal queen]: so that thou didst not lay [consider] these things to [in] thy heart, neither didst [thou] remember [reflect on] the latter end of it [what might happen].
Isa 47:8 Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to pleasures [you wanton creature], [thou] that dwellest carelessly [lounging in your security], [thou] that sayest in thine heart, I am, and [there is] none else beside[s] me; I shall not sit as [I will never be] a widow, neither shall I know [suffer] the loss of children:
Isa 47:9 But these two things shall come to [overtake] thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection [in full measure] for the [in spite of your] multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great abundance [all] of thine enchantments [potent spells].
Isa 47:10 For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None [no one] seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and [there is] none else beside[s] me.
Isa 47:11 Therefore shall evil come upon thee; [and] thou shalt not know from whence it riseth [how to conjure it away]: and mischief [a calamity] shall fall upon thee; [that] thou shalt not be able to put [ward] it off [with a ransom]: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know [cannot foresee].
Isa 47:12 Stand now [keep on] with thine enchantments [magic spells], and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured [at] from thy youth [since childhood]; if so be [perhaps] thou shalt be able to profit [succeed], if so be [perhaps] thou mayest prevail [cause terror].
~ Astrologers, stargazers, and monthly prognosticators shall be as stubble in the fire
Isa 47:13 Thou art wearied in [worn out by] the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up [come forward], and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.
Isa 47:14 Behold, they shall be as [like] stubble; the fire shall burn them [up]; they shall not deliver [not even save] themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at [to warm anyone], nor fire to sit before it [here is no fire to sit by].
Isa 47:15 Thus
shall they be unto thee [ That is all they can do for you] with
whom thou hast laboured, even thy merchants [and trafficked
with], from thy youth [since childhood]: they shall wander
[go on in his error] every one to his quarter; none shall save thee.
